New content, who ‘dis? Wow, it’s been a long time. How is the pandemic treating you? In the beginning, I thought I was going to be one of those hyper-productive types, who takes their website and hobbies to the next level. It turns out that is not me, not even a little bit. In my full-time job, I’ve been working from home since March 2020 and it turns out spending most of your time at home can be really draining. I took my first real vacation (not just a stay-cation) only two weeks ago.
Yes, I’ve made a bunch of cool crafts during this time and I’ve tried out a bunch of new mediums and techniques, but I didn’t quite have the energy to write involved blog posts about all of it. This week I finally felt inspired to do a little more than just the ‘gram. My tag fits the theme of 3 different craft challenges, including Simon Says Stamp Monday, Simon Says Stamp Wednesday, and Try It on Tuesday, so it felt right to blog it.
My tag is relatively simple, but I was able to use a bunch of random scraps for the background. If you are anything like me, you probably have a pile (or multiple piles) of leftover scraps from other projects. It is the “I know I’ll use this for something someday” pile. The biggest problem with those piles? They aren’t always cohesive elements, as you can see from my before picture below.
An easy way to solve the cohesion problem is slap a coat or two of paint over it. Voila, instant background with texture and a smaller pile of leftovers. Tim Holtz likes to remind us that dies are just shapes, which is what makes them so versatile.
And I liked my background so much I almost didn’t want to cover it up, but why do we call it a background? Because it is in the background (thank you, Dyan Reaveley). My purple (dusty concord) tag felt like spring to me, so I pulled out my Julie Nutting bunny, Hello Bluebird fairies, and Spellbinders words from March Small Die of the Month and another older die of the month. Everything was watercolored with Distress Crayons, except the bunny’s dress that was cut from Pebbles Garden Party paper pad. And that my friends is how you use up some scraps!
Stay crafty!
